All Board members were present for the July 20, 2021, meeting: Cody Whitton, President; Michelle Swanson, Vice-president; Kevin Honey, Treasurer; Kathleen McGough Johnson, Secretary; Sue Abbey;
Steve Kimball; Shannon Barnhart; Alicia Lindquist; Barb Czerniak; Librarian Dawn Swanson.

The Treasurer’s report was given by Barb, in her last official action as former Treasurer.
There were $225 in Memorial Gifts donated recently. Also, Dawn acknowledges each gift with a personal letter of thanks.)
Dawn commenced her report with the good news that the Building project is nearing completion.
Access Elevator and Skinner will put on finishing touches soon. We should expect their due bills shortly. From the Chautauqua Fund, the library received $631. From the Salamanca library, two children’s tables and eight chairs were donated. We can expect to receive Trustee training sessions from the System’s Megan Disbro and LJ Martin. When comparing the number of patrons visiting the library in December, 2019 (727) to the number in July, 2021 (745), it is clear that the library continues to meet the needs of its citizens of all ages.
Among Dawn’s future objectives is a revised long-range plan for all services the library provides.
In addition, we must update the website to included hours of operation, our Mission Statement, and the Board meeting Minutes. The password must be better protected. System techs can help with this.
Dawn shared information from the Community Survey she conducted. The new hours the library is open are: Monday – Closed, Tuesday – 9am-5pm, Wednesday – 9am-1pm & 3pm-7pm, Thursday- 9am-5pm, Friday 9am-1pm & 3pm-7pm, Saturday 9am-Noon.
Thanks to Corey and Michelle Swanson, there is now a new Open Flag. Pam Moran and Alicia Lindquist will resume offering Story Hour. The Friends of the Library group has been reconstituted. If there is a late bus in September, the library can accommodate those students by adjusting hours. Cody made the motion to make the schedule change; Michelle and Shannon seconded. Motion carried. The hour schedule will start August 1, 2021. Cody and Sue moved acceptance of Dawn’s report.
Miscellaneous: Dawn suggested a book sale as a fundraiser. Cody moved to change DVD line in the Budget to read “Media”. Motion carried. Cody also made the motion to make Dawn the official director of the Kennedy Free Library. Motion carried unanimously. Steve cautioned that we must have inspections to ensure compliance with building codes of the elevator and the restroom renovations before paying the final bills. Kathleen asked for digital training workshops to be held at the library.
For the Friends of the Library, Michelle recommended holding the November 2, 2021 Election Day dinner in the church, with Robert Cross doing the primary cooking, and volunteers providing sweet potato casseroles and desserts. A 50/50 raffle and gift baskets would earn even more.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathleen McGough Johnson, Secretary
